The job
This modern brick home on a Bourne estate has just had its roof completely renewed in red interlocking tiles. It is not a simple two-slope roof: the property is made up of several separate roof planes with ridge junctions, gable ends and brickwork abutments, and every one of those details had to be finished properly for the whole roof to work as one.
Look closely at the photos and you can see how those details were handled. Every ridge is finished with a mechanically fixed dry ridge system, each cap screwed and clamped rather than bedded in mortar, so there is no mortar to crack and drop out after a few winters. The gable ends carry continuous dry verge units for the same reason, and where the tiles meet brickwork the junctions are dressed in lead. The result is a crisp, uniform roof that is designed to be maintenance-free.
The whole job ran from a fully boarded scaffold with edge protection and a loading bay, and like every full roof replacement we carry out, the finished work was signed off by an independent building inspector and is covered by our 20-year written guarantee.
